Welcome to Dirty Stove!
I am not an expert. And I’m not perfect.
Welcome to Dirty Stove! My name is Leiah and I’m a 26-year old vegan woman, living in DC and working from home as a graphic designer. My fiance and I have been together for 7 years, and vegan since April 2013. Before that, we were vegetarian since November 2010.
I’m starting this blog on a whim. It seems like whenever I have a conversation with a friend, family member, or new acquaintance, the topic always turns to food. And I find myself feeling very passionate about eating vegan and eating as healthfully as possible. Anything to get away from the typical American diet.
I grew up in a small town in Minnesota, hours away from any metropolitan area. I grew up on meat and potatoes, butter and cow’s milk, ice cream and cookies, McDonald’s and Pizza Hut. And I loved it all! I never even thought about my food choices until after graduating college, and never imagined I would ever call myself a vegan.
This first post is a picture of my weakness. It’s not the worst snack ever (or supper, in this particular case), but it’s definitely not the best. And I knew it wasn’t the best. But I was hungry and in a rush and just wanted something easy. Typically I would eat something healthier that I spent time cooking at home. But this wasn’t one of those times. My point is that I’m not perfect, and nobody is. But I believe that we can all do better! And my goal here is to write about food topics that fire me up, share links and articles and videos that inspire me, and ask questions that you should be asking yourself when you decide what to put in your body.
Let’s try to steer clear of suppers made from PB&J on a tortilla ;)
